Jaxson Dart’s impressive pre-season has earned him the backup job with the New York Giants.
Dart will start the season as the QB2 behind Russell Wilson, according to the Giants’ updated depth chart. The move drops veteran Jameis Winston to the third spot.
Dart was selected by the Giants in the first round, 25th overall, in the 2025 draft, and he made headlines with his play in the pre-season. The 22-year-old completed 32 of 47 passes for three touchdowns and ran for 47 yards and an additional touchdown.
“Being a rookie QB is not easy,” head coach Brian Daboll said during camp, according to SNY. “Being a quarterback in general is not easy. He knows he has a lot of things to work on, but he’s made progress every day. I’m glad we drafted him, I’m glad he’s our guy.”
Wilson, who turns 37 in November, will begin the season as the starter and serve as a mentor to Dart. Wilson played in 11 games for the Steelers last season, passing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.
